Business Consultancy

Management is ensuring you do things right. Leadership is doing the right things. Business consultancy is the catalyst that helps you move from management to leadership even, or perhaps especially, if you are a one-man band.

We all know that it is too easy to get wrapped up in paperwork and the day-to-day reactive events that keep the business together. However, many of our clients want to move the business forward and need someone to show them a better way. Your adviser development consultant will provide guidance and a business development team is available to give hands on support.

Complaints handling

The expertise and reputation of our complaints handling team is second to none. We have an excellent relationship with the Financial Ombudsman Service. This results from a firm but fair approach to complainants and a strict policy when dealing with ‘ambulance-chasers’.

In our experience, the small percentages of complaints that are upheld are not so much due to bad advice, but poor record keeping. Despite FSA requirements that allow time limits to keeping records, we keep them indefinitely. That way, there should be no doubt about facts or the dependency on unreliable memory.

Value Added Service

Personal Development

Annual Conference

Held at a prestigious venue and location, our annual conference is an opportunity to hear the latest developments from providers, suppliers, industry experts and Honister Capital via:

  1. Platform presentations
  2. Seminars
  3. One-to-one meetings
  4. Speed presentations
  5. Exhibitions

It is also a great opportunity to network and enjoy the company of like-minded professionals in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere.

Regional meetings

Regional Meetings serve three key objectives:

  1. Mixing and sharing ideas with fellow members
  2. Meeting Burns-Anderson senior managers for two-way dialogue and
  3. Enjoying provider-led development sessions.

Each of the regions has a chairperson elected from the membership. His/her role is to act as host to the meeting and chair the members’ forum. This way, you can be sure that your ideas and views are heard and acted upon.

Practice Principal Meetings

A Practice Principal Meeting is an open forum for invited principals to discuss business ideas. They are held regionally for the top firms to share experiences and issues to resolve by mutual support.

Specialist Forums

These are held regularly for specialists in particular subjects, such as mortgages, pensions, investments and general insurance, to learn about the latest initiatives and to network with colleagues throughout the Honister Capitall adviser companies.

Honister Capital TV

You have access to video presentations on a full range of investments and market conditions, with in-built CPD record.

Annuity Portal

To refer annuity cases that otherwise do not form the normal part of your business, for enhanced service and introducer commissions. The software used is revolutionary, and the report that your client receives always uses the relevant rates applying to the client’s fund size and age and explains all the annuity options including escalation, spouse’s benefits, tax free cash, guarantees and payment periods. Annuity Portal also liaise with the client’s current providers to make sure they can beat their rate and take care of the discharge forms and all conveyancing.

Annuity Portal is a whole of market company but realises that there will be some small funds out there that some market leaders won’t be able to quote on. It has special deals for this kind of case so whatever fund size you discover they will be able to deal with it.

Practice Buy-Out

As a member of Burns-Anderson you will benefit from two schemes on offer. Both schemes provide transparent criteria for determining the value of your business so that you know at any time what your business could be worth.

Honister Capital's practice buy-out scheme places a value on your business by the amount of renewal and trail commissions received, the quality of the client records, compliance and complaints history, and use of bespoke back office and platforms systems. Honister Capital’s scheme offers a market-leading practice buy-out option that gives you real value and flexibility.

The Burns-Anderson scheme values your business using similar criteria. The main differences are that we offer a fixed term annuity, based on a percentage of the annual recurring income, and your clients are passed on to our in-house IFA. For many of our members it is a way of guaranteeing that their clients are cared for after their retirement with the continuation of the Burns-Anderson brand. Your clients are your business and you should benefit from passing on that business. As a result, we see the value of the recurring income, and hence your income, rising during the term of the annuity.

And helping you …

  • Segment your client base and adopt appropriate service levels
  • Determine a fee charging structure that fits your business
  • Make the most of technology
  • Grow your business
  • Develop the way you want to do business
  • Develop your own website through a partnership arrangement
  • Deliver updates to your clients through regular newsletters
  • Produce sales aids on popular topics
