Burns Anderson longest Network provider
Network Services

As you would expect from the longest serving Network provider in the UK, we have an excellent reputation for quality service.

This means that you can run your business, knowing that you have a financially stable, support service to free you to do what you do best.

Our compliance procedures are based on enabling you to give quality advice. And our T&C scheme is designed to allow the maximum flexibility yet with hands-on support and guidance.

A team of Member Services Managers is based throughout the UK – and yes we mean Scotland and Northern Ireland too.

Member firms build up excellent working relationships with their local MSM, who understands their businesses and applies a light touch approach to support and guidance.

The MSM's provide your advisers with up to four face-to-face meetings each year with an additional meeting with the firm’s principal each year. The aim is to help you run your business efficiently as free from risk as possible and with maximum opportunity.

We support the permissions of Investment, Mortgage, Pure Protection and General Insurance advice. And it’s up to you whether you want to operate as an Independent Adviser, whole of market or select range (multi-tie) or a combination of these. It’s your choice.

Our team of experts at the Bristol office is available by direct dial to answer any queries you have and to provide you with up to date information and support.

As a network member you have access to a bespoke website for instant access to information and guidance. We provide you with a unique ID and a password that you can change for your own convenience.

Investment Service

As one of the largest distribution channels, investment and pension providers are keen to provide high levels of support to our members. This translates into

• Training and development,
• Sponsorship of our National Conference,
• Contributions to our in-house magazine ‘Choices’
• Customer Service and
• Best possible commissions.

You are able to advise on all types of packaged investments, provided you have the relevant qualifications and experience. If you do not have the qualifications, you can refer the case to our own IFA under an introducer arrangement or for expert sign-off. Certain ‘high-risk’ cases, such as occupational pension transfers and long-term care require pre-approval.

We have negotiated very favourable terms from suppliers for members using portals, research and back-office software.

Mortgage Service

The Burns-Anderson Mortgage Service offers members access to a Whole of Market solution via its direct to lender relationships, supported by mortgage clubs and approved packagers.

With over £2.0bn worth of lending, Burns-Anderson members enjoy access to many exclusive and semi-exclusive products, as well as some of the most competitive procuration fees available in the market.

In addition to residential mortgages, as an NACFB member Burns-Anderson has developed a panel for Commercial Mortgages, complemented by an introducer route for members who do not wish to advise in this area but want to meet their clients’ needs.

The Overseas mortgage service has recently been enhanced with the addition of a property sales service giving clients access to property sales in over 25 different countries!"

General Insurance Service

Professional Indemnity Insurance is not only a regulatory requirement, but a safeguard against your future for past practices.  We have no idea what claims are  around the corner, so it is important that the Insurance you hold is not only adequate, but robust enough to withstand any potential claims for malpractice.

Whilst this may be viewed as 'another FSA cost', and something you see as a requirement as opposed to a necessity, spending too little time on choosing the correct policy or insurer can be fatal.

More competition in the market in the past few years has led to cheaper premiums and more competitive excesses. However this has also brought about a number of pitfalls.

• Does a cheap policy give you the level of cover you require?

• As the PI Market works on a claims-made basis, will the Insurer be around in 5 years time to pay out any claims?

• Will they be able to give you the level of service you require?

• Are there hidden exclusions within the policy?

When negotiating our Professional Indemnity Insurance, Burns-Anderson takes all of these factors into account, ensuring that we opt for a strong, reliable Insurer.  We know there are cheaper policies available, however we have a duty of care to our members and we treat them fairly.
Our policy complies with both the FSA and Insurance Mediation Directive. .

With monthly premiums starting at £41 and excesses at £1,000, we believe this represents the best possible value.

Training & Competence

As a quality adviser you want a level of supervision that recognises your expertise and professionalism. Our team of Member Service Managers all have backgrounds in sales, management, training and development. They are a multi-disciplined team so that the right focus is given to you and the needs of your business. This means you can do the right things as well as doing things right.

As you would expect from an experienced network, our T&C scheme is designed to provide the maximum flexibility for you to run your business, yet robust enough to keep you as free from risk as possible. We pride ourselves on our reputation as the ‘quality’ network, and this applies equally to our members. Protecting that reputation also protects you.

Complaints handling

The expertise and reputation of our complaints handling team is second to none. We have an excellent relationship with the Financial Ombudsman Service. This results from a firm but fair approach to complainants and a strict policy when dealing with ‘ambulance-chasers’.

In our experience, the small percentages of complaints that are upheld are not so much due to bad advice, but poor record keeping. Despite FSA requirements that allow time limits to keeping records, we keep them indefinitely. That way, there should be no doubt about facts or the dependency on unreliable memory.

Business Consultancy

Management is ensuring you do things right. Leadership is doing the right things. Business consultancy is the catalyst that helps you move from management to leadership; even, or perhaps especially, if you are a one-man band.

We all know that it is too easy to get wrapped up in paperwork and the day-to-day reactive events that keep the business together. However, many of our members want to move the business forward and cannot see the wood for the trees.

Both teams of Member Service Managers and Regional Sales Managers can help you identify needs and find solutions to your business.

Regional meetings serve three key objectives;
Mixing and sharing ideas with fellow members
• Meeting Burns-Anderson senior managers for two-way dialogue and
• Enjoying provider-led development sessions

Each of the 10 regions has a chairperson elected from the membership. His/her role is to act as host to the meeting and chair the members’ forum. This way, you can be sure that your ideas and views are heard and acted upon.

The structure of the meetings has developed over the years to adapt to member requirements. They are currently held three times a year for one morning to allow the important element of networking over a leisurely lunch.

Business Exit Planning

Burns-Anderson Retirement Solutions is a way of guaranteeing that your clients are cared for after your retirement. Your clients are your business and you should benefit from passing on that business.

By passing onto Burns-Anderson IFA, you can be sure that your clients will continue to receive the same high quality advice that you have given them.
